Swedish midfielder Ayisak Alemayehu netted Djurgården’s only goal as the club succumbed to a 4-1 defeat against English giants Chelsea in their Conference League semi-final clash yesterday.
Djurgården’s hopes of reaching the Conference League final were dashed as they were convincingly beaten by Chelsea. However, a bright spot for the Swedish side was the performance of their 18-year-old midfielder, Ayisak Alemayehu, who managed to find the back of the net. Alemayehu, a Swedish citizen with Ethiopian heritage through his father Alemayehu Mulugeta, showcased his talent despite the team’s overall loss.
Born in Umeå, Sweden, to his Ethiopian father and a Salvadoran mother, Alemayehu has already gained experience playing at various levels. He previously had loan spells with Feyenoord’s under-21 team and several clubs based in Stockholm, demonstrating his potential within European football.
At the international level, Alemayehu has represented Sweden in their under-17 and under-18 national teams, highlighting his recognition within Swedish youth football. Primarily a midfielder, Alemayehu holds triple citizenship: Swedish, Ethiopian, and Salvadoran, reflecting his diverse family background.
Despite the disappointing result for Djurgården, Alemayehu’s goal serves as a notable moment for the young player as he continues to develop his career on the European stage.
