Changes in Ethiopia’s government as official positions left vacant following peace agreement with Tigray
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed hosted a farewell ceremony for several government officials on Wednesday, marking the end of their tenure in their respective positions. Among those who bid farewell were Takele Uma, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Dagmawit Moges, the Minister of Transportation, Umer Hussein, the Minister of Agriculture, and Teferi Fikre, the Head of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The removal of these officials comes after a peace deal was reached between the federal government and the Tigray regional government. The Prime Minister is expected to promote senior officials from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) to ministerial positions. However, there is currently no information available on who will fill the vacant positions.
The ceremony was attended by a number of government officials, including members of the cabinet and members of the parliament. In his remarks, Prime Minister Abiy thanked the departing officials for their service to the country and wished them well in their future endeavors. He also emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in moving Ethiopia forward.
The peace deal with the Tigray regional government was reached after 2 years of conflict between the federal government and the TPLF, which had previously been in power in the region. The agreement is seen as a major step towards resolving the ongoing conflict and restoring stability in the region. The Prime Minister’s move to promote TPLF officials to ministerial positions is seen as a further indication of his commitment to reconciliation and rebuilding the country.
The public is eagerly waiting to see who will be appointed to the vacant positions and how these appointments will impact the ongoing political and economic development of the country.
